Writing an article on Unlocking the Magic of Apple’s Word Art: A Creative Guide to Personalizing Your Devices with Handwritten Text
If you’ve ever sat down to write a note or email and found that your handwriting is a bit spidery, or if you’ve been looking for a creative way to personalize your device, you may have considered using Apple’s built-in word art feature.
While this feature might not be for everyone, it can be a great way to add personality and personal touches to your documents. In this article, we’ll take a look at how to use this feature, how it works in different applications, and some tips for getting the most out of it.
Unlocking the magic of apple’s word art
In iOS 13 and later, Apple has introduced the ability to add handwritten text as an option in any app that supports it. To get started, head over to Settings > Personalization > Apps > Apple Words.
Once you’re here, tap on “Words” and then tap on “Add Words.”
Now you have access to thousands of different fonts in Words that can be used for both handwriting text and non-handwriting text. You can also create your own font or modify existing ones.
Once you’ve selected a font and added one of your own writing styles into Words (if applicable), head back into the app where you want to apply these hand-written texts (such as in iMessage).
By default, Apple Word Art will write at the same line height as you set in other text fields like iMessages. To switch that around so that handwritten lines are taller than regular text fields, simply swipe up from one of those lines where it will jump back down after completing its line of text.
You can also resize these hand-written entries by tapping on them twice until they align vertically correctly within their boundaries.
For example:
A full-width handwritten entry is created by selecting two consecutive handwritten characters at once,
pressing down while letting go before tapping again
to create
A lowercase character is created by selecting two consecutive letters starting with either “a”,
“b”, or “c”, then pressing down while letting go before tapping again to create .
Note: Be sure not to accidentally edit any actual handwriting when adding hand-written entries.
Some apps let users customize their fonts using regular settings. On iOS 15+ models that allow customization for handwriting styles (

) this may include changing letter spacing , thickness , color ,
shape ,
position ,
and spacing between characters within each entry – all options usually displayed in Settings > Apps > Customize < App Name >
for each individual app – though not all apps offer such customization options!
Customizing font style within apps
To change the appearance of WordArt fonts within other apps (like Notes or Mail),
open Settings > General > Document & Text Format Settings , select Custom Document Format , scroll down until
WordArt Options appears under Format Selection then choose Custom Fonts . Choose from hundreds of professional-style fonts by typing in new names here!
Alternatively open Settings > Fonts & Writing Style Preferences >
Apple Letters Font Prefs >
Custom Letter Styling Options here which also allow customization but has fewer options than Select More Fonts above .
When opening custom document format settings make sure you select All Document Formats under Formats so only wordart becomes visible when printing from certain devices .
Adding more hand-painted features is possible too ! For example creating outlines around existing letters or even whole phrases would make your handiwork stand out even more!
Creating templates
Not every person who works with words wants their creations personalized but there are many cases when creating something simple but unique seems like what someone would need help with !
Consider using templates provided by Apple ! Here s how :
Head over to iMessages template library located inside Messages> Templates . Then right-click on one template then select Copy Template . Next copy clipboard contents from another device where appropriate then paste them into new instances .
Templates can’t always be modified so if making changes would result outside standard guidelines consider instead making an original design yourself !
