Creating a word cloud is a fun and easy way to visualize the most common words in your text data. It’s an excellent way to understand the structure of a document and its key themes. Here’s how to craft a perfect word cloud on your Mac.
Materials
– Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or any other compatible text editor
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of crafting a word cloud on your Mac using Microsoft Word or Google Docs. We’ll also share some tips for getting great results with your word cloud.
Step 1: Import Your Text Data
The first step in creating a word cloud is to select the text that you want to visualize. In Microsoft Word or Google Docs, open the text file and locate the location where it’s stored on your computer. Make sure you have access to it so that you can copy-and-paste it into your editor.
Step 2: Select Your Preferred Font
Once you have imported your text data into Microsoft Word or Google Docs, you’ll need to select which font we’ll use for our resulting graphic.
Choose from one of several different fonts provided by either Microsoft Office or Google Workspace. If you don’t see what
you’re looking for, try searching online for “font recommendation” as this should provide suggestions from Adobe Fonts (Microsoft) and Web Fonts (Google).
Once you’ve chosen your font,
Step 3: Create Your Layout
Next up is laying out the grid for which we will set our clouds parameters such as padding (white space), margin-top,
margin-bottom , margin-left, margin-right,
fontSize : small numbers (for smaller clouds), larger numbers allow us more elements per unit of pixels.
